Daily desk note: NVDA is the name on the blotter

What the tape, the implied move, and a few operator chats are saying into the print. A watch item, not a ticket.

What this note is

A short synthesis of the public tape, the options surface, and a handful of operator chats this week. We keep these so the research log stays honest about what we were watching and what would have made the note wrong.

This is the name on the blotter today. It is not a position, a size, or an instruction.

Setup

  • Spot has been leaning on the 20-day after the last guide-up. Realized vol is sitting under the implied move into the print.
  • Dealer positioning looks long gamma above the nearest round strike and short it below. That usually damps the path until it doesn't.
  • The bull case in the chat is still "supply is the constraint." The bear case is "the multiple already paid for two clean quarters."

What we are actually watching

  1. Data-center commentary versus the capex language from the big buyers. Narrative without order color is noise.
  2. Whether the implied move gets paid. A beat that lands inside the straddle is a different event from a beat that expands it.
  3. Next-day breadth in the AI complex. A single-name gap that does not pull the basket is usually faded by the systematic crowd.

What would change the note

A guide that walks back the second-half ramp, or a supply comment that is specific — substrates, HBM, a named rack — rather than directional. Until one of those shows up, this stays a watch item.

If a note cannot say what would make it wrong, it does not get published.

How it is filed

The claim, the evidence, and the invalidation live in the same place as the backtest reviews. We do not publish position sizes, and we do not turn a blotter name into a recommendation. The next note either confirms the watch item or retires it.
